2008 - Here we go again!

The Midwest regional meeting was held January 12, 2008 at the infamous Dobey farm in beautiful Plymouth, Illinois. We were lucky to have a great day for the 8th Annual Alan VanFleet Memorial Challenge (formerly known as the Birmingham Meat Hunt Dog Championship). There were approximately 35 who attended. There were over 300 birds and 3000 clays shot at and I do mean shot "at". The event added $200 to the regional bank account. Two local residents Brad Cludray and Ryan VanFleet took 1st place by 1 bird in the overall competition with Mike Murphy and Butch Garver coming in second. Craig Jones and Dan Vining traveled 7 hours from Michigan to take 1st place in the clays with Kevin Cashman and Manny Boutsikakis in second by 1 clay. Practice up, Manny, there's always next year. (No, Joe, the only thing I have to do is bring 1 quart of Greek wine ):>)

The meeting was held afterwards. Seventeen members were present. At this time I took over the reins from a man who has worked very hard to help make our region successful, not only in membership, but also in testing and breeding. Many thanks go out to Steve Kosmicki for 4 great years. Several items were discussed such as the pros and cons of using our web site vs. the regional web page on the national site, and the region's financial status which is doing well. We also talked about a DVD for training, and a proposal to make Hermann Schomaker and Margitta Albertsen honorary life paid members. Following a unanimous "yes" vote, it was agreed that a proposal would be forwarded to the Board for final approval.

Finally the Midwest region would like to hold the 2009 annual meeting, and this will also be brought to the Board.

We have put together our test and training dates for 2008 and are still looking for a few test coordinator volunteers. If you are interested, please contact me at uppermidwest@nadkc.org or call me (847) 550-8074.
